WINONA, Minn. — If Saint Mary’s University baseball coach Nick Winecke were granted one wish Sunday, it would have been to erase a single inning from each game of his team’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Macalester at Max Molock Field — doing away with the second inning of Game 1 and the third inning of Game 2. Unfortunately for Winecke and the Cardinals, there are no do-overs in collegiate baseball — and the erasing of innings is just wishful thinking — as Macalester used its five-run second inning to beat SMU 5-0 in the opener, then erupted for seven third-inning runs en route to a sweep-clinching 9-2 victory in the nightcap.

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Brett Ferschweiler (Rochester, Minn.) and Andrew Ruf (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) each posted complete-game performances for the Saint Mary's University baseball team Thursday afternoon against Concordia, but neither got a win for their efforts, as the Cobbers took advantage of three SMU errors in beating the Cardinals and Ferschweiler 5-3 in the opening game of their MIAC doubleheader, then got a three-run, two out home run from Tony Emmerich off Ruf in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the sweep 4-1.

Baseball
Warren hit a team-leading .435 in the Cardinals' seven games last week, collecting 10 hits in 23 at-bats. He also scored five times and drove in three runs as SMU went 3-4 in its seven contests last week. The junior left-fielder finished with 11 total bases an a .478 slugging percentage. He also made 56 putouts with three assists defensively.

Softball
Stenseth hit .467 in the Cardinals' eight games last week, collecting 14 hits — including four doubles — in 30 at-bats. The SMU freshman, who also scored five runs and drove in seven, boasted a .600 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage, while making seven putouts in left field.

During the two-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at SMU on May 14-15, five NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship automatic-qualifying marks were recorded, while 45 NCAA provisional standards were hit and four MIAC Outdoor Championship records were broken.
