WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University baseball team's nonconference game against Winona State, scheduled for Monday, April 27 at WSU's Loughery Field, has been postponed. Winona State, which was originally slated to play two games vs. UM-Duluth in Duluth, Minn., on Sunday, had those games rained out and moved to Monday. No make-up date for the SMU-WSU tilt has been set.

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Staked to a 5-3 lead — thanks to a five-hit, five-run fifth inning — heading into the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday, Saint Mary's University baseball coach Nick Winecke could only sit back and watch, as Concordia’s Jake Krause drew a lead-off walk, Scott Schumacher collected an infield single, and, after a pop-out to second, Kyle Johnson delivered a three-run home run to carry the Cobbers to a 6-5 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory. And SMU never recovered, giving up six first-inning runs in falling 13-2 in Game 2.

WINONA, Minn. — Before Thursday, the Saint Mary’s University and Finlandia baseball team had never met on the diamond. After the Cardinals put up 33 hits and 26 runs in 12 innings, the Lions probably wished they had still never met. SMU played the role of the ungracious host Thursday afternoon at Max Molock Field, scattering 13 hits and using a pair of four-run innings to beat Finlandia 10-0 in the opener, then erupted for a season-high 20 hits in Game 2, scoring at least one run in every inning in completing the sweep with a 16-0 triumph.

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University baseball team could not figure out St. Olaf’s pitchers — managing just 11 hits and seven runs against a staff that was giving up runs by the boatloads. The Oles, meanwhile, feasted on SMU pitching, battering whoever coach Nick Winecke sent to the mound — including starting second baseman Brandon Haugh (Easton, Minn.), who pitched a scoreless seventh in Game 2 in his first-ever collegiate pitching appearance — to the tune of 34 hits and 28 runs in a 13-1, 15-6 St. Olaf sweep at Max Molock Field Tuesday.

Athletes of the Week
Curt VanAsten
Men's Track & Field
VanAsten broke the school's 200 hurdles record during Saturday's Border Battle, shattering the 14-year-old record by nearly a second in clocking a time of 25.62 to win the event. VanAsten's time was not only a school record, but also a meet and fieldhouse record as well.
Stevie Fiek
Women's Hockey
Fiek scored two goals and added an assist at the Cardinals split their MIAC series against Augsburg last weekend. The SMU sophomore picked up her team-leading 10th assist in Friday's 4-1 loss, then netted the game's first two goals in leading the Cardinals to a 5-1 win in the rematch Saturday
