WINONA, Minn. — When it comes to post-season honors, Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.) is now a perfect 2-for-2. Just a day after earning her first-ever First-Team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, Simons added all-region honors to her collegiate softball resume, as the Saint Mary’s University junior was named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger Third-Team All-Midwest Region, it was announced Wednesday. And Simons had some post-season company, as freshman Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) was also named to the NFCA Third Team.

WINONA, Minn. — Defensively, they anchored the left side of the infield — starting a third base and shortstop in each of the Saint Mary’s University fastpitch softball team’s 40 games. And offensively, their numbers were virtual mirror images of one another. So it was only fitting that when the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team on Tuesday, third baseman Kellie Simons (Richfield, Minn.) and shortstop Katy Gannon (Roselle, Ill.) were both named to the team.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — It was not the ending the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team was hoping for Tuesday afternoon, as the Cardinals dropped a heartbreaking, 9-8, eight-inning decision to the Falcons in the opener — a game in which SMU scored four runs in the top of the eighth, only to surrender five in the bottom half of the inning. That loss took all the wind out of the Cardinals’ sails, as SMU’s tank hit empty in the nightcap, falling 8-0.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University fastpitch softball team did its part Sunday afternoon. Augsburg, however, couldn’t say the same. SMU feasted on Carleton pitching to the tune of 9-1 and 10-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories, but in order for the Cardinals to earn a spot in the four-team conference playoffs, they needed Augsburg to do the same — sweep its final two MIAC games against St. Olaf. They didn’t, as St. Olaf officially eliminated SMU from playoff contention with a 2-1 victory in Game 1.
