WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team, fueled by the dynamic duo of Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) and Jessica Mate (St. Charles, Ill.), earned an NCAA Tournament berth a year ago — falling to eventual NCAA national champion Washington University in St. Louis 3-1 in the regional semifinal. As memorable as last season was, however, coach Mike Lester is taking a page from the Las Vegas ad campaign — “what happened in 2009, stays in 2009.”

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team, coming off a 22-10 season and a trip to the NCAA Division III regional semifinals, landed the fourth spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, it was announced Friday.

WINONA, Minn. — Eighteen Saint Mary’s University fall student-athletes earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition, it was announced Thursday. The MIAC recognized a record 304 student-athletes, who represented the conference’s 13 institutions.

WINONA, Minn. — Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.), already named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team and the AVCA Central Region First Team — not to mention the NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team — collected yet another post-season honor Tuesday, as the junior right side hitter earned AVCA Honorable-Mention All-American honors.

WINONA, Minn. — Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) collected a team-leading 28 kills in the Cardinals’ two NCAA Central Region tournament matches — a 3-1 win over Thomas More in the quarterfinals and a 3-1 loss to eventual tournament champion Washington University in St. Louis — and was named to the NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team, it was announced Sunday.

Baseball
Warren hit a team-leading .435 in the Cardinals' seven games last week, collecting 10 hits in 23 at-bats. He also scored five times and drove in three runs as SMU went 3-4 in its seven contests last week. The junior left-fielder finished with 11 total bases an a .478 slugging percentage. He also made 56 putouts with three assists defensively.

Stenseth hit .467 in the Cardinals' eight games last week, collecting 14 hits — including four doubles — in 30 at-bats. The SMU freshman, who also scored five runs and drove in seven, boasted a .600 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage, while making seven putouts in left field.

Sarah Gardner collected 17 kills Wednesday evening vs. Viterbo, giving the SMU senior 1,007 kills for her career. She is the 10th player in SMU volleyball history to eclipse the 1,000 career kills mark.
