Saint Mary’s Cardinal Notes:
When Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) scored his first basket — on his first shot — during Monday’s game vs. St. Thomas, he became the 26th member of the SMU men’s basketball 1,000-point club. Holland, who enters tonight’s game at Carleton with 1,007 points, is the second SMU player to eclipse the 1,000-point mark this season — Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) reached the career milestone vs. Bethel on Dec. 5. … Both Holland and Wright scored their 1,000th point on SMU’s home floor. … Wright tossed in a game-high 26 points vs. the Tommies Monday. … Wright’s effort — which gives him 1,255 career points and moves him past Ryan Rankin and into 12th all time in SMU scoring history — was his highest individual performance since netting 30 vs. Augsburg on Jan. 19, 2009. Wright his five points from No. 11 George Hoder and 13 shy of No. 10 Bill Skemp. … Wright has now scored 10 or more points in all 20 games this season and 61 times in his 65 collegiate games. … Chris Palmer (Faribault, Minn.) chipped in 13 points vs. the Tommies Monday. … Palmer leads the team with four double-doubles, and has had five other games with 10 or more points and nine rebounds. … Palmer has scored in double figures in 10 straight games and 16 times this season. … The Cardinals enter today’s game boasting three players averaging in double figures — Wright (17.7 ppg), Palmer (14.5 ppg) and Holland (14.3 ppg). … Wright ranks second in the MIAC in scoring (17.3 ppg in 15 conference games), while Palmer is fourth (15.3 ppg). … As a team, SMU ranks No. 1 in the MIAC in free throw percentage (254-for-340, 75%). … Four of the Cardinals’ seven wins have come on their home floor. … The Cardinals boasted five players in double figures in beating Gustavus for the first time in 17 years last Wednesday. The win was SMU’s first over the Gusties since Feb. 13, 1993, when the Cardinals collected a 72-70 victory. … SMU’s five double-figure scorers were the most in one game since the Cardinals had five — Terrence Smith (19), Michael Batterman (12), Brensley Haywood (12), Dan Cormier (11) and John Gencius (10) — score 10 or more points vs. Northland on Dec. 30, 2005.
