ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University men’s soccer team, coming off a 3-2 conference loss to St. Olaf, hits the road on Saturday, traveling to Hamline for a 1 p.m. MIAC contest against the Pipers.

Last Action: The Cardinals snapped a two-game scoreless drought, getting a pair of second-half goals, but it was not enough, as St. Olaf raced out to a 3-0 lead and held off the late SMU charge for a 3-2 conference win Wednesday at Ochrymowycz Field. Hamline, meanwhile, came up empty against Concordia Wednesday, as the Pipers dropped a 1-0 home decision to the Cobbers.

Last Meeting: September 20, 2008: The Pipers scored early, and the Cardinals scored late, as SMU's Bobby Gas (Lake Zurich, Ill.)netted the game's equalizer with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation to earn SMU a 1-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tie in Winona, Minn.

SMU Cardinal Notes: SMU’s two goals vs. St. Olaf Wednesday were season-firsts for the Cardinals’ Andy Adair (Woodbury, Minn.) and Tony Olsen (South St. Paul, Minn.). … SMU’s two second-half goals also marked the highest offensive output since beating Lakeland 3-2 in overtime on Sept. 27. … SMU GK Jon Szafranski (Barrington, Ill.) stopped nine St. Olaf shots Wednesday. It was just the second time in the Cardinals’ last six games that the senior has stopped fewer than 10 shots. … Szafranski enters today’s game with a 1.72 goals-against-average and an .808 save percentage. He has now stopped 97 shots this season, pushing his school-record career saves total to 4-2. … Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.) and Ryan Rademacher (La Crosse Wis.) share the team lead in goals with three each, while Boussie also leads the Cardinals in assists (3) and points (9). …  SMU has played three overtime games in each of the last two seasons and are now 4-0-3 in their last seven overtime games and have not lost an OT game since a 3-2 setback vs. Macalester on Sept. 22, 2006. … Both of the Cardinals’ ties this season have come on their home field — and both have been 1-1 decisions. …  SMU has scored seven of its 13 goals in the first half, while the Cardinals’ opponents have netted 14 of their 23 goals in the second half. … SMU has surrendered three penalty kick goals this season. The Cardinals, meanwhile, have not attempted a PK this year.

Hamline Piper Notes: Wednesday’s loss to Concordia was the Pipers fourth setback in their last five games, with the lone win a 1-0 victory over Saint John’s on Oct. 7. … Hamline has been held to one goal or less in each of its eight losses, while scoring 11 goals in its five wins. … Three of Hamline’s five wins have come on the Pipers’ home field. … Drew Lukas enters today’s game as the Pipers’ offensive leader, boasting team highs in goals (6) and points (13). … Dave Donner has dished out a team-leading three assists. … Hamline’s 14 goals have come from six different players. … GK Zach Nelson has played every minute in goal for the Pipers, compiling a 1.24 goals-against-average and an .822 save percentage. He has stopped 83 shots and recorded three shutouts. … The Pipers have played three overtime games — a 2-1 win vs. Central-Iowa, a 0-0 tie vs. Bethel and a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Carleton. The three OT games all occurred during a three-game, six-day stretch from Sept. 20-26.

Andrew Warren
Baseball
Warren hit a team-leading .435 in the Cardinals' seven games last week, collecting 10 hits in 23 at-bats. He also scored five times and drove in three runs as SMU went 3-4 in its seven contests last week. The junior left-fielder finished with 11 total bases an a .478 slugging percentage. He also made 56 putouts with three assists defensively.

Softball
Stenseth hit .467 in the Cardinals' eight games last week, collecting 14 hits — including four doubles — in 30 at-bats. The SMU freshman, who also scored five runs and drove in seven, boasted a .600 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage, while making seven putouts in left field.
