COON RAPIDS, Minn. – Tony Hynes (Lino Lakes, Minn.) turned in his second straight round in the 70s Sunday afternoon at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships – and unlike Saturday, this time, the SMU senior wasn't alone.

Hynes carded a second-round five-over 77 to go with Saturday's four-over 76, while teammate and fellow senior Rob Klein (Lake Bluff, Ill.) chipped in a 79, after struggling to an 85 during his first tour around the Bunker Hills Golf Course Saturday.

On the women's side, Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) wasn't able to duplicate her career round of 79, shooting 89 on Sunday, which was still good enough to keep the Cardinal sophomore among the tournament's top 10.

“It was another solid day for us,” said SMU coach Jeff Stangl, whose women are sitting eighth, while the Cardinal men are 10th. “We had some pretty solid rounds again, which was nice to see.”

Saint John's, fueled by Tony Krogen's tournament-best five-under-par 67, lead the tournament heading into Monday's final round by 14 strokes over St. Thomas. Krogen's two-day, five-under 139 is five shots better than teammate Matt Giorgi, who was the first-round leader with a 69, but struggled to a 75 Sunday.

On the women's side, Gustavus all but locked up the team title, shooting a second-round 321 to take a 29-shot lead over Saint Benedict with 18 holes to play. GAC's Katie Schenfeld posteed the tournament's low round on Sunday with a six-over 78 and leads teammate Taylor Drenttel by two strokes.

Along with Hynes (76-77-153) and Klein (85-78-164), the Cardinals got an 85-87-172 from Ryan Brodd (Woodbury, Minn.), an 85-94-179 from Ethan Austin (Northbrook, Ill.) and a 94-85-179 from #D.J. Borgen# (Red Wing, Minn.).

Puch's 79-89-168 leaves her ninth overall, while Katelyn Rizzi (Austin, Minn.) followed up her first-round 85 with an 88 for a 173 total. Brittney Nielsen (Apple Valley, Minn. / 95-101-194), Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn. / 115-95-210) and Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn. / 107-110-217) rounded out the Cardinals' scorers.
