LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team, coming off its first road contest of the season — a 79-67 victory at Luther on Nov. 21 ­ — are back on the road Sunday, traveling to Lake Forest for a 3 p.m. nonconference contest against the Foresters.

Last Action: The Cardinals traveled to Luther for their first road game of the season and got 21 points from both Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) and Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) in a 79-67 nonconference victory over the Norse on Nov. 21. Lake Forest, meanwhile, dropped its third straight, falling to the Universtiy of Chicago, 61-60 on Nov. 24.

Last Meeting: This afternoon's game is the first-ever between the Cardinals and the Foresters.

With their win over Luther on Nov. 21, the Cardinals improved to 2-1 and are off to their best start since the 1998-99 season. The Cardinals take the court today looking to start 3-1 for the first time since 1978-79, when SMU opened with three straight wins — vs. UW-La Crosse, Wartburg and Winona State — before falling to Upper Iowa 80-69. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) and Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) each scored 21 points vs. Luther on Nov. 21. It was the first time this season the Cardinals have had two players score 20 or more points. … SMU has had one 20-point scorer in each of its first three games. … SMU's bench chipped in 31 points and 21 rebounds in the Cardinals' win over the Norse. … Chris Palmer (Faribault, Minn.) poured in game- and season-high 20 points — including 14 in the first half — against UW-La Crosse on Nov. 18. Palmer also leads the team in rebounds with 25 (8.3 rpg). … Wright's 21-point effort vs. Luther was the 26th time in SMU's last 28 games that the SMU junior has scored 10 or more points. Wright has now scored in double figures in 48 of his 52 collegiate games. … Holland's game-high 25 points vs. the University of Dubuque on Nov. 15 was the third-highest offensive output of his career behind 30- and 26-point showings during his freshman season in 2007-08. … The Cardinals enter today's game boasting three players averaging in double figures — Holland (18.3 ppg), Wright (17.0 ppg) and Palmer (12.3 ppg). … Holland, who extended his consecutive games played streak to 52 vs. Luther, leads the team in 3-pointers with six, while he and Wright have each made 19 free throws — Wright is 19-for-20 and Holland is 19-for-21 from the charity stripe.

After opening the season with a 77-62 win over Lakeland, the Foresters have dropped three straight — including the heartbreaking 61-60 loss to the University of Chicago on Nov. 24. … Travis Clark knocked down eight of his nine field-goal attempts en route to a game-high 16 points vs. the Maroons on Nov. 24. … Clark enters today's nonconference contest against Saint Mary's averaging a team-best 14.5 ppg. He also leads the team in rebounds (6.8 rpg) and his shooting 70 percent from the field (26-for-37). … Jeff Beck scored a career-best 14 points and Patrick Hanley recorded his first double-double of the season — 11 points, 11 assists — vs. the University of Chicago. Hanley's 11 assists were a career high. … As a team, the Foresters are shooting 51 percent from the field (108-for-208) and have made 24 of 67 3-point attempts. … After averaging more than 70 points a game in their first three contests, Lake Forest was held to a season-low 60 vs. the Maroons.
