Match Summary vs. Saint Benedict

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University women’s tennis team completed its climb back to the .500 mark Wednesday afternoon, putting together back-to-back nonconference wins over UW-River Falls and Northwestern.

The stay at the .500 mark, however, was short-lived, as Saint Benedict handed the Cardinals a 7-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback Saturday afternoon.

Rebecca Snyder (Eden Prairie, Minn.) ran her dual-meet winning streak to 10 straight with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, while the freshman also had a hand in the Cardinals’ other win, teaming with Briana Placek (Greendale, Wis.) for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

Snyder’s effort, however, would be the highlight of the afternoon for the Cardinals, who came up empty in the other five singles matches. Brittney Nielsen (Apple Valley, Minn.) came up just short in her match at No. 6 singles, falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, while Abby Cooper (La Crosse, Wis.) dropped a first-set tiebreaker in falling 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5.

The Cardinals close out their season Sunday, playing host to Hamline in a noon conference match at the Winona Indoor Tennis Center.
