Complete NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Region Teams
WINONA, Minn. — After putting together a career year in 2008, capped by being named both First Team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and NFCA Louisville Slugger All-Region — only one question remained for Sainnt Mary’s University’s
Cassie Otte (Randolph, Minn.) — what to do for an encore?
Otte’s answer was simple — better her best.
The senior outfielder saved her best season for last, and that effort didn’t go unnoticed, as Otte earned NFCA/Louisville Slugger Second Team All-Region honors, it was announced Monday.
Otte started all 40 games for the Cardinals, who finished tied for fifth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 10-12 record and closed out the year 18-22 overall. She closed out a stellar collegiate career in 2009, leading the team in virtually every offensive category, including career-bests in batting average (.449), at-bats (147), runs (38), hits (66), total bases (70), on-base percentage (.477) and stolen bases (21). Her 66 hits rank No. 2 in program history behind SMU Hall of Famer Jenny Garin’s 72 hits in 1997, while her .449 batting average ranks 10th all-time.
With her 2-for-4 and 2-for-5 performances in her final two games at SMU Field on April 28, Otte finished with a team-best 22 multiple-hit games this season. Among her 22 multiple-hit games was a pair of four-hit performances. Otte had only one four-hit effort in her first three years combined.
