Last Action: The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-2 lead and led 4-3 heading into the final 20 minutes, but the Royals scored twice in the third period — including the game-winner with just over two minutes remaining in regulation — to hand SMU a 5-4 conference setback at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, Minn., in Game 1 of their two-game conference series. The Royals erupted for four first-period goals and never looked back in rolling to a 9-1 MIAC win in the rematch Saturday at the SMU Ice Arena. St. Thomas, meanwhile, settled for a split in its MIAC series against eight-ranked Hamline.
