WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University women’s hockey team, coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to St. Thomas in Mendota Heights, Minn., on Friday, return home for Saturday’s rematch with the Tommies. Game time at the SMU Ice Arena is 4 p.m.

Last Night: The Cardinals and Tommies traded second-period goals, but the Tommies’ Taylor Schluter broke the deadlock with a powerplay goal five minutes into the third period, lifting St. Thomas to a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.

SMU’s 2-1 loss to St. Thomas Friday was not only the second straight 2-1 loss on a Friday — the Cardinals also lost 2-1 to Bethel to open the teams’ conference series last weekend — but it was also the Cardinals’ 10th one-goal game of the season. SMU is now 3-6-1 in those 10 games. … Despite Friday’s loss, the Cardinals are still 8-4-1 in their last 13 games. … Erin Stenseth (Eau Claire, Wis.) scored SMU’s lone goal vs. UST Friday. It was the second straight game in which the Cardinal freshman has scored. … Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) had a part in all three SMU goals in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Bethel — assisting on the first two goals, then scoring a goal of her own in the third period. … Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.), who scored SMU’s lone goal against the Royals last Friday evening, leads the team with 10 goals. …  Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.), who had a goal and an assist vs. Bethel last Saturday, enters today’s contest vs. St. Thomas with a team-best eight assists. … SMU boasts three players with 10 or more points — Olson (14), Fiek (12) and Cachey (10). … Kaye Collier (Hibbing, Minn) stopped 31 Tommie shots on Friday. … Collier has stopped 36 or more shots three times in her collegiate career — also kicking out a career-best 39 saves vs. Lake Forest on Nov. 1 and stopped 38 Gustavus shots on Jan. 16. … Collier, who has notched three shutouts this season, enters today’s contest against St. Thomas boasting a 1.57 goals-against-average and a .941 save percentage. … SMU’s six goals vs. Marian on Jan. 9 equaled its season high and are the most in a game since the Cardinals beat Hamline 8-0 on Feb. 25, 2004. … The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 14-6 in the first period and 14-10 in the second, but have been outscored 13-10 in the game’s final 20 minutes. … The Cardinals have scored first in 11 of their 16 games, going 8-2-1 in those 11 games. On the flip side, SMU is winless when its opponent scores first (0-5-0).

Friday’s win over SMU was the Tommies’ third straight. … Last Saturday’s win over Hamline was the Tommies’ third shutout win of the season. UST also blanked Saint Benedict (5-0) and Augsburg (6-0). … St. Thomas has played three overtime games this season, going 0-1-2. The Tommies tied UW-Eau Claire (3-3) and Gustavus (2-2), while losing to UW-River Falls (2-1). … St. Thomas has outscored its last five opponents by a combined 20-5. … Rachel Zilles and Taylor Schluter scored UST’s goals vs. SMU Friday. … UST’s five goals vs. Hamline last Saturday came from five different players. … Lindsey Wilson, who stopped all 18 shots she faced vs. Hamline last Saturday en route to her second shutout in as many starts, could not make it 3-for-3 Friday, giving up a second-period goal to SMU’s Erin Stenseth, and finished with 25 saves. … Korrine O’Conner picked up an assist vs. SMU Friday, giving her the team lead in both assists (8) and points (13). … O’Conner, Kara Ledel and Schlueter share the team lead in goals with five each. … UST has used three different goalies this season, with the trio combining for a 1.78 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage. … UST has outscored its opponents 14-9 in the first period, 15-10 in the second and 17-7 in the game’s final 20 minutes. … St. Thomas has scored first in 10 of its 15 games, going 7-2-1. Baseball
Warren hit a team-leading .435 in the Cardinals' seven games last week, collecting 10 hits in 23 at-bats. He also scored five times and drove in three runs as SMU went 3-4 in its seven contests last week. The junior left-fielder finished with 11 total bases an a .478 slugging percentage. He also made 56 putouts with three assists defensively.

Softball
Stenseth hit .467 in the Cardinals' eight games last week, collecting 14 hits — including four doubles — in 30 at-bats. The SMU freshman, who also scored five runs and drove in seven, boasted a .600 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage, while making seven putouts in left field.

Sarah Gardner collected 17 kills Wednesday evening vs. Viterbo, giving the SMU senior 1,007 kills for her career. She is the 10th player in SMU volleyball history to eclipse the 1,000 career kills mark.
