Cardinals can't slow Oles in 8-1 MIAC loss

OWATONNA, Minn. — The Saint Mary’s University women’s tennis team ran into a buzz saw Saturday afternoon, as St. Olaf rolled to an 8-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Cardinals.

“(St. Olaf) got off to a quick start and we just never recovered,” said SMU coach Jeff Halberg. “St. Olaf is a very good team and today, we just never seemed to get our game on track.”

The Oles swept through the doubles matches, winning 8-3, 8-4 and 8-3, beore winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Rebecca Snyder (Eden Prairie, Minn.) collected SMU’s lone singles win, posting a 7-5, 7-5 victory over St. Olaf’s Caitlin Harper at No. 2 singles.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, traveling to St. Paul, Minn., for a conference match against St. Catherine.

Andrew Warren
Baseball
Warren hit a team-leading .435 in the Cardinals' seven games last week, collecting 10 hits in 23 at-bats. He also scored five times and drove in three runs as SMU went 3-4 in its seven contests last week. The junior left-fielder finished with 11 total bases an a .478 slugging percentage. He also made 56 putouts with three assists defensively.

Softball
Stenseth hit .467 in the Cardinals' eight games last week, collecting 14 hits — including four doubles — in 30 at-bats. The SMU freshman, who also scored five runs and drove in seven, boasted a .600 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage, while making seven putouts in left field.

During the two-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at SMU on May 14-15, five NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship automatic-qualifying marks were recorded, while 45 NCAA provisional standards were hit and four MIAC Outdoor Championship records were broken.
