WINONA, Minn. — Talk about picking up right where you left off.
In his first meet of the outdoor season,
Andrew Brueggen (Holmen, Wis.) — coming off an All-American performance in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor National Championships — provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships with a school-record throw in the hammer throw at the Lee Krough Invitational Saturday.
And Tuesday, the Cardinal junior was honored for his efforts, earning Co-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Brueggen uncorked a throw of 55.19 meters, shattering the old mark — set just 25 minutes earlier by
Derek Wherley (Missoula, Mont.) — by more than 14 meters in winning the event. Brueggen, whose hammer throw ranks eighth in NCAA Division III, also placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 36.35 meters.
