WAVERLY, Iowa — In the fall,
Mariana Sanchez (Puebla, Mexico) is an all-conference goalkeeper for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team.
In the spring, however, Sanchez trades in her goalkeeper gloves and cleats for a set of golf clubs.
New sport, but same stellar results, as Sanchez led the way for the Cardinals at the Wartburg Invitational, carding rounds of 94-87—181 to finish 15th overall and help SMU to a sixth-place team finish.
Brittney Nielsen (Apple Valley, Minn.) was eight shots back (96-93—189) to place 24th overall, while
Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn. / 112-105—217) and
Amalia Santos (Waukesha, Wis. / 163-153—316) rounded out the Cardinals' top four.
