NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's golf team started slow — but finished strong at the Carleton Invitational.
SMU, which opened with a 419 total on Saturday, trimmed 41 strokes off its opening round score Sunday, as the Cardinals shot a second-round 378 in finishing 13th.
Gustavus brought home the team title, recording a 36-hole total of 639 to beat runner-up UW-Eau Claire by eight strokes. St. Olaf (658), Carleton (665) and St. Thomas (685) rounded out the top five. The Gusties' Taylor Drenttel earned medalist honors, shooting rounds of 76-77—153 to win by four shots over Carleton's Hope Kearney.
