Brueggen invited to NCAA championships
Donny Nadeau, SMU Sports Information Office
WINONA, Minn. — Ever since his first performance of the outdoor season on April 10, Andrew Brueggen (Holmen, Wis.) has been a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.

Monday, Brueggen was able shed the provisional tag, as the NCAA announced the field for the upcoming national championships in Berea, Ohio — and the Saint Mary’s University junior was among the invitees.

Eric Flores of California Lutheran owns the best hammer throw of the season at an NCAA Division III record 67.31 meters, while Brueggen’s school-record mark of 56.66 meters ranks him 12th among the 17 entrants. Fellow MIAC competitor Aaron Wilkerson of Hamline — who dethroned Brueggen as MIAC champion at the conference championships two weeks ago — also earned a spot in the NCAA field.

Brueggen, who landed All-American honors with his fourth-place finish in the weight throw during the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in March, will be making his second straight outdoor national championships appearance when he steps into the ring Thursday at 5 p.m.
