WINONA, Minn. — Andrew Brueggen (Holmen, Wis.) and Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) were named Saint Mary's University's Outstanding Male and Female Athletes during part of the Cardinal 'M' Club Sports Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony Saturday evening, while David Dahlstrom and Stephanie Marnocha were named SMU's Outstanding Male and Female Scholar Athletes.

Saturday's festivities also included the induction of three new members into the SMU Sports Hall of Fame, as the Cardinal 'M' Club, in association with the Saint Mary's Alumni Office, welcomed the Class of 2010 — Teisha (Smith '00) Devine (fastpitch softball), John Tschida '90 (fastpitch softball) and George Hoder '67 (men's basketball) — into the Hall (click here for Hall of Fame induction video / (click here for complete Hall of Fame bios).

Brueggen enjoyed a banner junior season for the Cardinal track and field team, landing All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in the weight throw and hammer throw, while also earning NCAA Division III National Championships appearances during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Brueggen became the first Cardinal male track and field athlete to earn All-American honors, posting a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, while adding a 13th-place effort in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.

Gardner, meanwhile, also enjoyed an NCAA appearance during her junior season, helping lead the Cardinal volleyball team to a berth in the NCAA Division III Central Region Tournament, when SMU fell to eventual national champion Washington University in St. Louis in the semifinals. A First-Team All-MIAC and AVCA All-Central Region selection, Gardner earned honorable-mention All-American honors after closing out the season as SMU's kill leader with 386 (3.16 kills per set). She appeared in all 122 sets, boasting a .272 attack percentage, 55 service aces, 197 digs, 58 blocks and 75 assists.

An Accounting/Human Resource Management major with a 4.0 grade-point-average — not to mention SMU's 2010 Outstanding Male Senior as voted on by his peers and the class valedictorian — Dahlstrom was a key cog in the Cardinals' pitching staff. He appeared in nine games, compiling a 5.54 ERA, while striking out nine and collecting his second career save.

Like Dahlstrom, Marnocha was a mainstay in the Cardinal women's soccer lineup. A secondary education major and the class salutatorian, Marnocha appeared in 17 games for the Cardinals a year ago, scoring a pair of goals.
