Cardinals make quick work of Finlandia to improve to 2-0

WINONA, Minn. — After going five sets in their season opener against UW-La Crosse in their first match of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team wasn't fooling around in match No. 2 against Finlandia.

SMU needed just 45 minutes to dispatch of the Lions, rolling to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-4) victory at the SMU Gym.

Carissa Hahn (Hutchinson, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, collecting a match-high 11 kills, while hitting a whopping .625. SMU got kills from 10 of the 12 players who saw playing time vs. the Lions, as the Cardinals hit .484 as a team and dominated the match from start to finish.

Cathy Rennie (Pine Island, Minn.) dished out 29 assists and collected six of the team's 19 service aces, while Erika Hurley (Chatfield, Minn.) had four aces and six digs. Megan Schulz (Andover, Minn.) and Kara Grant (Peosta, Iowa) each finished with three aces, while Schulz also recorded six digs.

The Cardinals (2-0 Overall) are back in action on Saturday, taking on Loras (10 a.m.) and Luther (4 p.m.) in the final day of the two-day Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic.
