WINONA, Minn.  — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's hockey team returns home for the second game of its two-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against St. Thomas Sunday, as the Cardinals host the 12th-ranked Tommies in a 5 p.m. matchup at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.

November 8, 2013: For the second straight meeting at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena, the Cardinals and Tommies found themselves embroiled in yet another defensive battle, with the Cardinals clinging to a 1-0 lead through the game's first two periods. The Cardinals' 1-0 win in the shootout vs. St. Thomas Saturday was its first shootout in the two years since the MIAC added it to the end of tied games. … Martin Gruse (Trenton, Mich.), Jed McGlasson (Kenai, Alaska) and Mike Mezzano (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied the Cardinals' three goals vs. the Tommies Saturday, while Jonathan Elliott (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) netted the shootout winner. … McGlasson has now scored three goals in the Cardinals' last two games, while Gruse has netted one goal in Saint Mary's last two games. … McGlasson recorded the second two-goal game of his career with a pair of goals vs. Concordia on Nov. 2. The senior also netted two goals against St. Olaf on Nov. 30, 2012. … McGlasson leads the team with four points through three games (3 G, 1 A), while Gruse (2 G), Mezzano (1 G, 1 A) and Bob Marx (Sioux City, Iowa / 2 A) are all second with two points. … Chad Cesarz (Jackson, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate goal against Concordia on Nov. 2. The Tommies' enter Sunday's game against Saint Mary's ranked No. 12 in the latest USCHO.com poll. UST opened the season ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll, but dropped seven spots after going 0-1-1 at the MIAC Hockey Showcase. … St. Thomas' 2-1 loss to Hamline last Sunday was just the third setback in its last 26 games vs. MIAC opponents (20-3-3).
