WINONA, Minn.—
Alex Peterson (Harmony, Minn.) had a week to remember in leading the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team to a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories.
And Monday afternoon, the Cardinal junior was rewarded for her efforts, as Peterson was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week.
Peterson, a First-Team All-MIAC selection a year ago, collected 23 kills (3.83 kps) and hit a remarkable .543 in leading Saint Mary's to 3-0 victories over Bethel and Macalester last week.
The junior outside opened the week in near-perfect fashion, banging out 13 kills on 17 attempts—with no errors—as the Cardinals dispatched of Bethel 3-0 last Wednesday. Peterson, who hit .765 against the Royals, followed that performance up with a 10-kill effort against Macalester three days later, as Saint Mary's completed its perfect week with a second straight 3-0 victory.
Peterson enters this weekend's key conference matches at nationally ranked Saint Benedict (Friday) and Concordia (Saturday) as the team leader in kills with 127. She tallied a season- and career-high 23 kills against UW-La Crosse on Sept. 10.
