COON RAPIDS, Minn. —
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) turned in the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team's best round of the afternoon in the opening day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday.
And Sunday, the Cardinal junior was at it again—only this time she had some company.
Gately carded her second straight 85 and was joined by teammate
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) atop the Cardinal leaderboard, as the duo helped Saint Mary's climb up one spot in the standings to ninth—one shot back of eighth-place Concordia—thanks to their 359 second-day team total
Gately—whose back-to-back 85s were career lows—heads into Monday's final round of the 54-hole tournament with a team-best 170 total, while Kling is second at 173 (88-85).
Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn.), rebounded from an opening-round 96 with a Day 2 89 for a 185 total, while
Paula Avila (Weslaco, Texas / 93-101—194) and
Tiarra Thompson (Jonesboro, Ga. / 103-100—203) rounded out the Cardinals' top five.
St. Thomas overtook first-round leader Carleton for the top spot in the team standings, as the Tommies shot a second-day 297 for a 626 total—seven shots in front of Carleton, with St. Catherine (648), Saint Benedict (671), and Gustavus (679) rounding out the top five.
Grace Gilmore of Carleton shot a second-round 74 for a 150 two-day total and holds a four-shot lead over St. Thomas' Erin Dingmann in the race for individual honors. Emily Thul is currently third (156), followed by Ziyi Wang of Carleton (157) and Natalie Amundson (158) of Saint Benedict.
The final round of the three-day tournament is slated for Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Course, with tee times set to start at 9 a.m.
