LA CROSSE, Wis. — Over the final 82 minutes of their nonconference game against UW-La Crosse, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota gave the high-powered Eagles all they could handle.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, it was in those opening eight minutes that the Eagles would score what proved to be the game's only goal, lifting UW-La Crosse to a 1-0 victory over Saint Mary's.
The Eagles, winners of six straight—their longest winning streak since 1999—got all the offense they would need right out of the gate, as Alex Cording took a feed from Mary Mansker and beat Cardinal goalkeeper
Aubrie Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) for her fourth goal of the season.
That would be the only shot the Eagles would get past the Saint Mary's goalkeeper, who finished with six saves. Unfortunately, the Cardinal offense came up empty against UW-L keeper Kennedy Brault, who made three saves in recording the shutout.
The Cardinals (3-8-0 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, entertaining Hamline in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Ochrymowycz Field.
