Cardinals come up short in 6-3 loss to Bethel

Match Summary | GameDay Preview

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell behind 2-1 after doubles play and could not make up the deficit, as the Cardinals dropped a 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference decision to Bethel Saturday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

"The ladies fought hard," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "They put up a great effort, but just weren't able to pull out the win."

Kirsten Hoffmann (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Katie Krull (Rochester, Minn.) teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Krull and Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) collected straight-set singles wins, but the Royals closed out the win with victories in the other four singles matches.

The Cardinals (0-3 MIAC, 2-3 overall) step out of conference play next Friday, hosting Northwestern (Iowa) in a 2 p.m. nonconference matchup at the Winona Tennis Center.
