WINONA, Minn. — If the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team was still smarting from their heartbreaking 5-4 nonconference loss to regionally ranked Luther earlier in the day, they certainly didn't show it in their second match on Saturday.
The Cardinals swept all three doubles matches and won five singles matches in straight sets en route to an 8-1 nonconference win over St. Norbert at the Winona Tennis Center.
"We played a great second match," said Cardinal coach
Jeff Halberg, whose team moved to 2-2 on the season with the victory. "We started quickly and stayed focused throughout.
"It was a good win."
The Cardinals did not lose more than four games in sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets, while adding a pair of 8-2 wins and an 8-3 victory in doubles play.
Saint Mary's is right back on the Winona Tennis Center courts on Sunday, as the Cardinals host Martin Luther in their fourth nonconference match in the past three days. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
