MIAC Indoor Day 1 Results: Men * Women | GameDay Preview

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Ross Kinderman (Onalaska, Wis.), Morris Dennis (Elk River, Minn.), Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.), and Maria Missurelli (Franklin, Wis.) have enjoyed a record-setting season for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams.
 
So it should come as no surprise that the Cardinal foursome continued their assaults on the Cardinal record books during the first day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday.
 
Kinderman broke his own record in the 60-meter hurdles, stopping the clock in 8.56 seconds in the preliminaries—the fastest time of the afternoon—before clocking an all-conference time of 8.70 in the finals to finish third.
 
Dennis equaled Kinderman's third-place, all-conference performance in the 400—also in record-setting fashion—stopping the clock in 50.18, and shattering the seven-year-old mark of 50.83, set by John Kelly in 2008.
 
Schommer and Missurelli, meanwhile, were not about to be outdone my their male counterparts, as Schommer clocked a school-record time of 8.08 in the 60-meter preliminaries, while Missurelli cleared a school-record 3.32 meters to place fourth in the pole vault.

And those were just the brightest of the bright showings by the Cardinals during the opening day of the two-day event.
 
Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) and Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) made the most of their final indoor conference championships, earning honorable-mention all-conference honors in the weight throw. Kircher uncorked a throw of 15.32 meters to place fourth, while Booker delivered a throw of 14.93 meters to finish fifth.
 
Along with his showing in the 60 hurdles, Kinderman also narrowly missed reaching the finals in the long jump, placing 10th in with a leap of 6.33 meters, while Bryan Ortman (Chicago, Ill.) was 11th with a jump of 6.15 meters. Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill.) placed 13th in the 5,000 with a time of 15:52.41, with Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) adding a time of 16:06.87 to finish 16th.
 
Schommer had a busy first day in the two-day championships, finishing 11th in the 400 (62.01) and 12th in the 60 (8.29)
 
In the heptathlon, Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Wis.)—fueled by fourth-place efforts in the shot put (11.01 meters) and pole vault (3.51 meters)—placed 10th, totaling 3,833 points, while Joe Gardner (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) was 16th with 2,861 points.
 
The Cardinals, who are sitting 10th in the men's standings and 12th in the women's, close out their indoor season on Saturday with the second day of the two-day MIAC Indoor Championships.
