WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's soccer team entered its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Bethel in dire need of an offensive jump-start.
Enter
Maddy Wallraff (Blaine, Minn.) and
Emma Schaefer (Roseville, Minn.).
Wallraff and Schaefer each scored goals in the game's first 22 minutes, igniting the Cardinals—who had been held scoreless in each of its last three games—to a 2-0 victory over Bethel Saturday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.
Wallraff wasted little time getting the Cardinals on the board, scoring her first collegiate goal off an assist from
Becca Dup (Albert Lea, Minn.) just seven minutes into the first half.
Fifteen minutes later, it was Schaefer's turn, as she took a feed from
Emily Loof (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and beat BU goalkeeper Jess Gapinski for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
And a two-goal lead proved to be more than enough with
Aubrie Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) between the pipes, as the Cardinal goalkeeper stopped all xx Bethel shots she faced in recording her second shutout of the season.
The Cardinals (1-2-0 MIAC, 3-5-0 Overall) are back in action on Wednesday, playing host to Gustavus in a 7 p.m. conference showdown at Ochrymowycz Field.
