MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team made certain there would be no repeat of Friday evening's opening set.
The Cardinals, coming off a 3-1 win over Saint Benedict on Friday that included a 25-9 loss in the opener set, left little doubt in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Concordia Saturday, breezing to a 3-0 victory at Memorial Auditorium.
Saint Mary's took control from the onset, breezing to a 25-11 win in the opening set—and the Cardinals never took their foot off the accelerator, winning the second set 25-21, before completing the sweep with a 25-14 victory in the third set.
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) led the Cardinals' offensive charge, collecting a team-high 16 kills for the second straight contest. The sophomore outside, who hit .371, also chipped in 10 digs for her second double-double in as many matches.
Lillian Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) and
Brittney Hanson (Janesville, Iowa) delivered 18 and 13 assists, respectively, while
Morgan Thomas (Palos Park, Ill.) finshed with a team-leading 14 digs.
The Cardinals (4-1 MIAC, 16-2 overall) are back in action—and back on the road—on Wednesday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., for a 7 p.m. conference matchup against St. Olaf.
