WINONA, Minn. — It's Monday morning, and time to take one final look back at the highlights of the week that was—by the numbers.
1: Kizzy Bell (St. Paul, Minn.) collected a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.47), and added a fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.23), to pace the Cardinal women's swimming and diving team's fifth-place finish at last Saturday's Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational.
1 x 2: Kyle Meeh (Fenton, Mo.) and
Andrew Cummings (Anchorage, Alaska) scored their first collegiate goals in the Cardinal men's hockey team's sweep of Bethel last weekend. Meeh netted the game-winner in Friday's 2-1 win, while Cummings tallied his first goal in a Cardinal uniform as part of Saint Mary's 4-2 win a day later.
2: The Saint Mary's women's soccer team had two players earn MIAC post-season recognition last Thursday.
Emma Schaefer (Roseville, Minn.) collected her second straight First-Team All-MIAC honor, while
Ashlie Malone (Peyton, Colo.) was an honorable-mention selection in her first season in a Cardinal uniform.
2: Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) racked up her second post-season honor last Thursday, as the Cardinal sophomore was named First-Team All-Central Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
2: Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill.) earned his second trip to the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, posting the Cardinals' second-fastest time in program history at the NCAA Central Regional last Saturday, touring the eight-kilometer course in a career-best 25:38 en route to a sixth-place finish and all-region honor.
3: With their 2-1 and 4-2 wins over Bethel last weekend, the Cardinal men's hockey team has now won three straight—and are unbeaten in their last four (3-0-1).
3: Anya Hafiz (Woodbury, Minn.) picked up a goal and two assists in the Cardinal women's hockey team's two games against Bethel last weekend. The freshman assisted on both goals in Saint Mary's 6-2 loss to the Royals on Friday, while scoring one of the two goals in Saint Mary's 2-2 tie vs. BU a day later. Hafiz has now recorded at least one point in all four games this season.
3: The Cardinal men's soccer team boasted three players—
Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.),
Garrett Grunke (Verona, Wis.), and
Sean Butcher (Cave Creek, Ariz.—who were named honorable-mention All-MIAC last Thursday. It was the second honorable-mention honor for Wolt, and the first for both Grunke and Butcher.
4: The Saint Mary's women's hockey team's four goals against Bethel last weekend came from four different players—
Natalie Ryan (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) and
Kassie Lien (Grantsburg, Wis.) scored the Cardinals' two goals in the Cardinals' 6-2 loss to the Royals on Friday, while
Anya Hafiz (Woodbury, Minn.) and
Jane Hannula (Coon Rapids, Minn.) netted Saint Mary's two goals in the 2-2 tie a day later.
5: With his goal last Friday and assist on Saturday,
Bob Kinne (St. Paul, Minn.) has now scored in four of the Cardinal men's hockey team's six games—and has had at least one point in five of the six.
5: Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal men's swimming and diving team at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational last Saturday, finishing in the top five in three individual events, while adding top-five efforts in a pair of relays as well in helping the Saint Mary's men to a fourth-place finish. Tonda won the 400 IM (4:41.82), and added a second in the 200 IM (2:09.26) and a fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.47), while also swimming on the fourth-place 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
6: The Saint Mary's men's hockey team's six goals in its two wins against Bethel last weekend came from six different players—
Bob Kinne (St. Paul, Minn.) and
Kyle Meeh (Fenton, Mo.) accounted for the Cardinals' two goals vs. Bethel last Friday, while
Martin Gruse (Trenton, Mich.),
Jay Heinle (York, Pa.),
Andrew Cummings (Anchorage, Alaska), and
Taylor Portner (Andover, Minn.) found the back of the net in last Saturday's rematch.
20: Ashley Corcoran (Red Wing, Minn.) made 20 saves in the Saint Mary's women's hockey tea's 2-2 tie against Bethel last Saturday. The 20 saves were one shy of her season high, a 21-save effort in the Cardinals' win over Marian on Oct. 28.
24:27: Molly Sweet (Prescott, Wis.), competing in her first collegiate NCAA Central Regional, picked an opportune moment to post her collegiate best time—by a long shot—posting a six-kilometer time of 24:27 to lead the Saint Mary's women's cross country team to a 23
rd-place showing.
38: Phil Heinle (York, Pa.) recorded a season-high 38 saves in the Cardinal men's hockey team's 4-2 win over Bethel last Saturday.
