STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota coach
Terry Mannor hoped that his team's third-period goal against UW-Eau Claire would be just what the doctor ordered for his offensive woes.
How right he was.
The Cardinals erupted for three goals—including two in the third period—as Saint Mary's snapped a season-high five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over UW-Stevens Point Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Ice Arena.
"It's about time," understated Mannor. "This team needed a performance like this—it was great to see us break out a bit and really put together a complete, 60-minute performance."
The Cardinals got on the board first, getting a goal from
Hannah Croonquist (St. Paul, Minn.)—the first of her collegiate career—in the first period, before adding a pair of third-period tallies to secure the victory.
The Cardinals made Croonquist's tally stand up until the third period, when UW-Stevens Point's Cara Lemirande scored at 9:22 to of the third period to knot the game at 1-1. The Cardinals regained the lead on
Lindsay Paschke's (New Prague, Minn.) goal at 17:39, and
Jane Hannula (Coon Rapids, Minn.) sealed the win with an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining.
Ashley Corcoran (Red Wing, Minn.) did her part to seal the Cardinals' win, stopping a career-high 38 shots for the Cardinals.
Saint Mary's (4-6-1) is now off until Jan. 6-7, when they entertain Lake Forest in a pair of nonconference games at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
