GameDay PreviewORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team closed out their spring trip schedule the same way they started it—with an impressive victory.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the nonconference match, and never took their foot off the accelerator, beating Adrian 8-1.
"The ladies played an excellent match," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Top-to-bottom, it was a great team effort—and a great way to conclude the break."
Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Minn.) and
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) teamed for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.)-Marissa Kinzer (Aitkin, Minn.), and
Ashley Syed (Lewisville, Texas)-
Summer Lardy (Richmond, Minn.) added 8-5 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to give the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage.
Sonday, Boeve, Jorgensen and
Sheyenne Bauer (Cannon Falls, Minn.) followed up with straight-set singles wins, with Kinzer outlasting Adrian's Mikayla Herig 6-3, 0-6, 10-7 at No. 5.
The Cardinals (5-2 overall) return home to the Winona Tennis Center next weekend, hosting Winona State in a 3:30 p.m. nonconference match on Friday, before entertaining St. Thomas in a noon Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown.
