D3hoops.com All-Region Teams WINONA, Minn. — Talk about making a lasting first impression.
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) turned more than a few heads in her first season as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's basketball team.
And, less than two weeks after landing a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors, the Cardinal freshman was back in the post-season spotlight on Monday, as Blattner was named D3hoops.com Second-Team All-West Region and West Region Rookie of the Year.
Blattner—the only freshman on any of the three D3hoops.com All-West Region teams—led the Cardinals in scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.6 rpg) during her inaugural season, helping Saint Mary's to a 21-6 overall record and a second-place finish in both the regular-season standings and post-season tournament.
An All-MIAC First-Team and MIAC All-First-Year selection, Blattner scored 20 or more points eight times this season—including a season-high 27-point effort in back-to-back games against St. Catherine and St. Olaf on Jan. 6 and Jan. 9—and shot 48 percent from the field (130-for-269). The freshman forward closed out the year with nine double-doubles and hauled in 10 or more rebounds in 13 of the 22 games she played in, including a career-high 19 boards against UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 29—the Cardinals' highest single-game rebounding performance in the last two decades.
Blattner was one of four players from the MIAC to earn D3hoops.com honors. St. Thomas' Kaitlin Langer was named All-West Region First Team and West Region Player of the Year while UST's Katie Stone and St. Catherine's LaShay Holt were Third-Team selections.
Players chosen to the All-Region teams are eligible for D3hoops.com All-American honors, which will be announced in the week following the NCAA Division III women's semifinals.
