GameDay PreviewFARGO, N.D. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team—coming off a heartbreaking, 5-4 loss to St. Catherine on Friday—regrouped in impressive fashion on Sunday, rolling to a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Concordia at Courts Plus.
"The ladies played very well this morning," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Early morning starts are always challenging, but we reacted well and put in an excellent performance."
The Cardinals raced out to a 3-0 advantage with doubles wins by
Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Minn.)-
Kirsten Hoffmann (Apple Valley, Minn.),
Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.)-
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.), and
Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.)-Marissa Kinzer (Aitkin, Minn.).
Sonday, Vandenberg, Boeve, Jorgensen, and
Sheyenne Bauer (Cannon Falls, Minn.) followed up with straight-set singles wins—losing just a combined eight games between them—while Hoffman completed the sweep with a three-set, 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 win at No. 2.
The Cardinals (2-3 MIAC, 7-4 overall) are off until April 2, when they host Bethel in an 11:30 a.m. conference matchup at the Winona Tennis Center. Saint Mary's then heads to Green Bay, Wis., the following day for nonconference matches against St. Norbert (10 a.m.) and UW-Stevens Point (1 p.m.).
