ST. PETER, Minn. — After competing in less-than-ideal conditions in their first two outdoor meets of the season, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams were greeted with sunny skies and warm temperatures Saturday afternoon.
And the Cardinals made the most of the stellar weather conditions.
Maria Missurelli and
Becca Dup took center stage for the Cardinal women, as Missurelli cleared 3.39 meters in tying for the top spot in the pole vault and Dup placed second in the long jump with a 5.25m effort, while
Morris Dennis placed second in the 200 with a time of 22.46,
Austin O'Hare finished second in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:00.59), and
Jacob Hagen-Erickson uncorked a leap of 6.48 meters to lead a 2-3 finish in the long jump to pace the Cardinal men.
Bryan Ortman finished just behind Hagen-Erickson in the long jump with a 6.28m effort, while
James Davis clocked a pair of second-place times, finishing in 22.58 in the 200 and 11.20 in the 100.
Desmond Steward recorded a time of 11.58 to finish seventh in the 100 for the Saint Mary's men, while Dup chipped in a sixth in the 100 with a time of 12.81 for the Cardinal women.
Brandon Krogman chipped in a top-5 finish for the Cardinal men, placing fourth in the 400 with a time of 52.41.
Kody Michaels placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (59.81) and
Luis Avila added a seventh-place effort of 5.91m in the long jump, while Hagen Erickson chipped in a seventh in the triple jump (12.30m), and
Andrew Allemann and
Tyler Fiebig also fared well in the 400, placing 12
th and 13
th in times of 54.52 and 54.66, respectively.
Jovan Newsum clocked a time of 1:59.97 to finish seventh in the 800, while
Ross Kinderman chipped in a 12
th in the javelin (41.95m), and
Phil Emmerich was eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:00.21), 15
th in the high jump (1.57m) and 18
th in the shot put (10.22m).
Molly Abraham clocked a time of 1:09.51 in the 400 to place 14
th and
Alicia Berkenes added a time of 2:32.59 to finish 19
th in the 800, while Madeline Eichers and
Kierra Walske finished 19
th and 20
th in the discus with throws of 30.31m and 30.21m, respectively.
Allie Thiel clocked a time of 2:34.48 to place 21
st in the 800,
The Cardinals return to La Crosse, Wis., for the second time in three weeks next Friday, heading to UW-La Crosse to take part in the Phil Esten Challenge.
