WINONA, Minn. — The weather conditions were far from ideal—in fact, the frigid temperatures and constant rain were downright miserable—but the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams made the most of their second home outdoor meet of the season Saturday afternoon.

James Davis' first-place effort in the 200 and Bryan Ortman's third-place showing in the long jump led the way for the Cardinal men, while Maria Missurelli paced the Saint Mary's women with a fifth-place performance in the pole vault at the non-team-scored Saint Mary's Open.

Davis crossed the finish line in 22.61 to edge out UW-La Crosse's Ben Jordan en route to his first-place showing in the 200, while Morris Dennis placed fourth with a time of 22.86. Ortman, meanwhile, uncorked a jump of 6.52 meters in placing third in the long jump, and Missurelli cleared 3.50 meters in the pole vault.

Jacob Hagen-Erickson—twice—Ross Kinderman, Ryan Buchmeier, David Kemper, and Brandon Krogman also posted top-10 finishes for the Cardinal men. Hagen-Erickson and Buchmeier finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump with leaps of 11.59 meters and 11.46 meters, while Kinderman was sixth in the javelin (44.00m), Kemper was seventh in the pole vault (4.15m), Hagen-Erickson added a seventh-place jump of 6.29 meters in the long jump and Krogman clocked a time of 51.58 to place 10th in the 400.

Luis Avila finished right behind Hagen-Erickson in the long jump with an eighth-place leap of 6.28m), while Joseph Gardner narrowly missed a top-10 showing in the both the 110 and 400 hurdles, placing 11th in 16.48 and 1:03.93, respectively.

Krogman's 10th-place showing in the 400 led a quartet of Cardinals in the event, as Jared Wolt (53.97), Avila (55.25), and Matt Vasalj (55.60) also turned in solid performances. James Davis and Morris Dennis added times of 11.32 and 11.54, respectively, in the 100, with Sherman Moga adding a 2:10.81 in the 800 and Phil Emmerich posting a 33.00m throw in the discus.

Madeline Eichers had a busy day for the Cardinal women, placing ninth in the hammer (42.81m), while adding an 11th in the discus (34.00m) and a 9.09-meter throw in the shot put. Becca Dup chipped in a 5.25-meter leap in the long jump, with Portia Mensah adding a 13.61 in the 100 and a 29.46 in the 200. Other top efforts for the Saint Mary's women included Kynzie Smedsrud in the 200 (28.86), Molly Abraham in the 400 (1:07.53), Alicia Berkenes (2:32.14) and Allie Thiel (2:33.09) in the 800, and Kierra Walske in the shot put (9.00m).

The Cardinals hit the road on Wednesday, heading to St. Paul, Minn., where the men will take part in the Concordia-St. Paul Twilight, while the women will head to St. Thomas for the Tommie Twilight.
