COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — It was a busy day for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's Madeline Eichers at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
And the Cardinal sophomore made it a memorable one, as well.
Eichers posted a career-best throw of 40.4 meters to place seventh in the hammer throw and pace the Cardinal track and field teams during the opening day of the two-day, season-ending conference championships.
Eichers was one of three Cardinal individuals to place Friday afternoon, as
Bryan Ortman added an eighth-placing showing in the long jump (6.55 meters) and
Ross Kinderman chipped in a 10
th in the javelin (45.60 meters). The Cardinal men's 4x800 relay team of
Brandon Krogman,
Jared Wolt,
Jovan Newsum, and
Austin O'Hare also recorded a top-10 performance, posting a seventh-place time of 8:14.56
Morris Dennis,
Brandon Krogman, and
Becca Dup all reached Saturday's finals with impressive qualifying races. Dennis clocked a time 50.01 in the 400, Krogman added a 1:56.90 in the 800, and Dup posted a 26.26 in the 200.
James Davis,
Andrew Allemann,
Phil Emmerich, and
Desmond Steward will also be racing on Saturday, after putting together a qualifying time of 44.64.
Other Cardinal performers who did not make event finals included
Jacob Hagen-Erickson in the long jump (6.14m), Dennis in the 200 (22.92), Emmerich (60.81) and
Joe Gardner (68.00) in the 400 hurdles,
Desmond Steward in the 100 (11.82), Davis in the 100 (11.49) and 200 (22.64),
Alicia Berkenes in the 1,500 (5:12.89),
Kynzie Smedsrud in the 100 (17.85) and 400 (77.33) hurdles,
Allie Thiel (2:37.33) in the 800, and
Clare Siska in the 400 hurdles (73.41).
The two-day event, hosted by Saint John's, concludes on Saturday.
