The Cardinals, coming off a sub-par performance at the Augsburg Invitational last weekend, put together by far their best showing of the young season Saturday, tying the school record by carding a 297 team total during the second round of the Carthage Tim Kopka Memorial Invitational. Fueled by their record-tying showing, the Cardinals jumped from 23rd to 15th in the overall standings.
David Iten (Plymouth, Minn.) and
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals Saturday, carding even-par rounds of 72. The Cardinal duo finished the 36-hole tournament with 152s—having shot an opening-round 80s during Friday's opening round.
Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit, Mo.) continued his impressive freshman campaign, following up an opening-round 79 with a 75 on Saturday to finish at a team-best 144, sharing that spot with
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.), who followed up an opening-round 79 with a second-day 75.
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) rounded out the Saint Mary's lineup, carding an 86 on Saturday, after shooting a team-best 77 on Friday.
The Cardinals head to Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Ill., next weekend to take part in the 36-hole Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine (Ill.) University.
