WAVERLY, Iowa — Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.), who carded a career-best five-over-par 77 in the opening round of the Saint Benedict Invitational last weekend, proved on Sunday that that effort was no fluke, as the junior rifled a seven-over 79 to pace the Cardinals to a 14th-place finish at the Wartburg Invitational.
 
Carleton won the two-day tournament, finishing with a 608 total, 26 strokes in front of runner-up St. Thomas, while UW-Stout (636), Bethel (642), and UW-Oshkosh (642) rounded out the top five. Saint Mary's finished with a 757 total, including a 363 in Sunday's final round.
 
Kling, who struggled to a 91 in Saturday's opening round, posted her second-best collegiate score with her second-day 79 to finish with a team-best 36-hole 170 total. Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) carded her second straight 88 for a 178, while Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.) followed her 109 opening-round score with a 95 and Ana Reding (Stillwater, Minn. / 109-101—210) and Grace Gillis (New Ulm / 108-109—217) rounded out the Cardinal lineup.
 
Alyssa Aklyama of Carleton earned medalist honors, shooting a second-round four-under 67 for a 145 total and a one-shot win over Vidushi Sinha of Grinell. Christine Piwnica of Bethel (147), Ziyi Wang of Carleton (150), and Vrishahl Sinha of Grinnell (152) completed the top five.
 
The Cardinals are back on the links next weekend, heading to The Jewel in Lake City, Minn., to take part in the D3 Classic, hosted by Carleton College.
