GELENA, Ill. —
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta), who missed the first two tournaments of the season with an injury, made a two-word statement during the 36-hole Midwest Region Classic: "I'm back."
Jackson, one of the Cardinals' top golfers a year ago, was in prime form this weekend, carding rounds of three-over-par 75 and two-over 74 for a 149 total and an eighth-place individual finish.
Fueled by Jackson's effort, the Cardinals placed eighth in the team standings. Luther won the two-day event, held at Eagle Ridge Resort with a 609 total, two shots in front of runner-up Augustana. UW-Stout's Dylan Kline claimed medalist honors, shooting back-to-back even-par 72s for a 144 total.
Jackson wasn't the only one making some second-day noise for the Cardinals, as
Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit, Mo.) followed up an opening-round 75 with a Day 2 78 and a 153 total, while
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) rebounded from an opening-round 81 to shoot a three-over 75 to finish with a 156 total.
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) closed out the tournament with a 163 (83-80),
Hunter Rau (Rushford, Minn.) added a 165 (83-82), and
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) shot rounds of 87-79—166.
The Cardinals head to Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis., next weekend, taking part in the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational.
