SARTELL, Minn. —
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.)—coming off a career-best round of 77 during the opening round of the Saint Benedict Invitational Saturday—was once again the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team's leader in Sunday's final round, carding an 88 to help the Cardinals to a 10th-place finish.
Kling—whose five-over-par 77 was not only a career-best, but also the lowest round by a Cardinal since Andrea Hanke carded a school-record 74 during the Luther Invitational in 2004—entered the final round of the 36-hole tournament sitting third overall, before settling for a 19
th-place finish following Sunday's 88.
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) followed up her opening-round 99 with a second-day 96, while
Ana Reding (Stillwater, Minn.) shot a second-day 100 after carding a first-round 97.
Tiarra Thompson (Jonesboro, Ga. / 100-102) and
Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn. / 108-106) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.
Carleton won the two-day event, shooting rounds of 309 and 312 for a 621 total, while St. Thomas (644), Bethel (648), St. Catherine (649), and Gustavus (658) and Saint Benedict (658) rounded out the top six. The Knights' Ziyi Wang earned medalist honors, shooting rounds of 74-73 for five-over-par 147 total.
The Cardinals return to action next weekend, traveling to Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa, to compete in the Wartburg Tournament.
