ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams were back in action Saturday afternoon at the Macalester Invitational —and
Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) and Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) were back leading the charge.
Again.
VanBeest posted the Cardinals' lone first-place finish, touching the wall in 1:13.45 in the 100 breaststroke, and added a third-place effort in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.31 to pace the Saint Mary's women, while Tonda posted three top-10 showings to lead the way for the Cardinal men.
Tonda recorded a time of 1:05.34 in the 100 breaststroke to place second, before posting times of 2:12.31 and 4:42.41 to place fifth in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 400 IM.
Lucas Gerads (St. Cloud, Minn.) added a sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:20.03) and a ninth in the 500 freestyle (5:40.10, with Nicholas Sawchuk chipping in times of 2:07.41 in the 200 freestyle and 57.20 in the 100 freestyle.
On the women's side,
Kizzy Bell (St. Paul, Minn.) recorded a fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.10), with
Chloe Morrison (Ashkum, Ill.) stopping the clock in 6:23.73 for seventh in the 500 freestyle.
Hannah Emeott (Chisago City, Minn.) recorded times of 2:24.40 in the 200 freestyle, 1:11.58 in the 100 freestyle, and 6:27.08 in the 500 freestyle, while
Zoe Schaetz (Winona, Minn.) added a 1:17.78 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:44.37 in the 200 backstroke. In the diving competition,
Ailie Davidson (Duluth, Minn.) placed third in the one-meter (198.10) and
Shelby Peterson (St. Paul, Minn.) was fifth in the three-meter with a score of 151.95.
The Cardinals return home for the final time this season next Saturday, hosting the Saint Mary's Triangular at the Jul Gernes Pool.
