ST. JOSEPH, Minn. —
Emily Loof (Colorado Springs, Colo.) continued her memorable senior year for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's soccer team Friday afternoon, as the Cardinal senior netted her team-leading seventh goal—a second-half tally against Saint Benedict.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Loof's goal would be the only one—and CSB had its offense running on all cylinders, scoring twice in each half—as the Blazers dealt Saint Mary's a 4-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at CSB Soccer Field.
The Blazers had the upper hand in the first half, as Sydney Bramer and Jane Koch each found the back of the net in the game's opening 45 minutes to give Saint Benedict a 2-0 cushion heading into the break.
Mara Flaherty pushed the CSB lead to 3-0 with her second of the season 11 minutes into the second half.
Loof finally broke through for the Cardinals in the 63
rd minute, rifling a shot through the hands of CSB goalkeeper Kendall Koenen for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
That, however, would be all the offense the Cardinals would muster, and the Blazers would tack on their second goal of the half—and fourth of the game—with 1:02 remaining to seal the victory.
Gabriella Pederson (Chaska, Minn.) was busy between the pipes for the Cardinals, finishing with nine saves, while Koenen stopped one of Saint Mary's two shots on goal for the Blazers.
Saint Mary's (0-6-0 MIAC, 5-7-0 overall) are back in action on Tuesday, returning home to Ochrymowycz Field for a 7 p.m. MIAC showdown against Gustavus.
