WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team entered Friday's nonconference game against Bethany Lutheran having won twice this season—both by 9-0 decisions.
Make that three wins—with all three by 9-0 decisions.
The Cardinals dominated the visiting Vikings Friday, breezing to three straight wins in the doubles competition, before adding six, straight-set singles wins—dropping just a combined eight games in those six singles matches—en route to the 9-0 victory.
Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) and
Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.) each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, while
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) and
Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.) were 6-0, 6-1 winners at Nos. 4 and 5.
Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Min.) added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while
Sheyenne Bauer (Cannon Falls, Minn.) rounded out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Barr and Boeve teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by an 8-0 sweep by Jorgensen and
Marissa Kinzer (Aitkin, Minn.) at No. 2, and an 8-6 triumph by
Summer Lardy (Richmond, Minn.) and
Ashley Syed (Lewisville, Texas) at No. 3.
The Cardinals (3-2 overall) are back in action next Friday, hosting Hamline in a 6 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Winona Tennis Cente.
