LA CROSSE, Wis. — For
Becca Dup and
Desmond Steward, the beat goes on.
The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field duo continued their dominance in the jumps Friday afternoon, as both collected first-place finishes in the triple jump, while Dup also added a second in the long jump at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge.
Steward uncorked a school-record leap of 13.99 meters in winning the men's triple jump for the second week in a row, while Dup—the school record-holder in the event—delivered a jump of 11.54 meters to capture the women's title, before adding a second-place showing in the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters.
Austin O'Hare chipped in a third-place showing in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:35.23), while
David Kemper was seventh in the pole vault (4.47m) and
Ross Kinderman added a ninth in the javelin (43.46 meters) to pace the Cardinal men.
Dean Marlin posted an 11
th in the triple jump (11.92m), while
Brandon Krogman was 12
th in the 800 (1:57.30),
Jacob Hagen-Erickson was 12
th in the long jump (6.05m),
Kyle Lichttenegger placed 16
th in the long jump (5.91m) and 17
th in the 100 (11.34), and Connor Nicolas was 18
th in the hammer throw (41.02).
On the women's side, along with Dup's first-place effort,
Alyssa Thiel chipped in an eighth in the 5,000 (20:01.00),
Maria Missurelli was 10
th in the pole vault (3.04m), and
Molly Abraham and
Alicia Berkenes added times of 1:07.14 in the 400 and 2:32.18 in the 800, respectively.
The Cardinals return home to the Saint Mary's Track & Field Complex next Saturday, hosting the Saint Mary's Open.
