Kinderman, Kemper, Dup lead Cardinals' charge

WINONA, Minn. — For the second time this outdoor season, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams got to strut their stuff in front of their home crowd Saturday afternoon.

And for the second time this outdoor season, the Cardinals gave their home fans plenty to cheer about.

Ross Kinderman posted the Cardinal men's top finish with a second-place effort in the javelin and David Kemper set a new school record in the pole vault at the Saint Mary's Open, while Becca Dup's 1-2 finish in the triple jump and long jump led the way for the Saint Mary's women in the non-team-scored event.

Kinderman uncorked a toss of 47.82 meters in finishing second in the javelin, while Kemper cleared a school-record 4.63m in placing fourth in the pole vault. Desmond Steward enjoyed a busy afternoon, posting fourth-place showings in the long jump (6.38m) and triple jump (13.04m), and adding an eighth in the high jump (1.66m).

Ty Romey finished 14th in the 400 (57.06), Tyler Amy was 16th in the discus (35.78m) and 17th in shot put (11.10m), and Brandon Krogman and Ben Borash placed 19th (4:12.46) and 20th (4:12.92) in the 1,500, respectively.

Dup continued her dominance in the jumps for the Saint Mary's women, as the school record-holder in both events placed first in the triple jump (11.33m) and narrowly missed breaking her own school mark in the long jump with a second-place effort of 5.47m.

Molly Sweet chipped in a third in 1,500 (4:58.24), while Emily Ortiz was fifth in 5,000 (21:02.99), Maria Missurelli placed sixth in the pole vault (3.12m), and Natalie King (hammer throw, 43.13m), Bailey Joens (high jump, 1.46m), and Mackenzie Ellefson (100, 13.58) all posted eighth-place performances. Madison Gueningsman and Carly Cronen also had solid afternoons, finishing 10th in 400 hurdles (1:11.15) and 12th in 800 (2:31.71), respectively.

The Cardinals are right back on the track on Wednesday, traveling to St. Paul, Minn., to take part in the Concordia-St. Paul Twilight.
