All-MIAC Baseball Team
WINONA, Minn. — A year ago, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Bob Kinne (St. Paul, Minn.) kicked off his collegiate baseball career in style, earning First-Team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors.
And Monday afternoon, Kinne closed out his two-year stint in a Cardinal baseball uniform the same way he ended his first season—as an All-MIAC First-Teamer.
Kinne—a three-time all-conference first-team selection as a member of the Saint Mary's men's hockey team—wasn't the only Cardinal hauling in post-season conference accolades Monday, as
Joe Seegers (Oconomowoc, Wis.) was named to the MIAC's All-Defensive Team.
Kinne started all 20 conference games for the Cardinals, hitting a team-leading .388, while also leading the team in at-bats (67), runs (14), and hits (26). He chipped in five doubles, one home run, 16 RBIs, seven stolen bases, a .400 on-base percentage, and a .507 slugging percentage.
Kinne closed out his senior campaign playing in 37 of the Cardinals' 39 games, compiling a .353 batting average (47-for-133), with 22 runs scored, 11 doubles, one home run, 29 RBIs and a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts. In the outfield, Kinne owns a .988 fielding percentage, making just one error in 86 chances—including 80 put-outs and five assists.
Seegers, meanwhile, was nearly perfect in the field, starting all 20 MIAC games at shortstop, finishing with a .985 fielding percentage. The Cardinal junior—who hit .250 (16-for-64) with 11 runs, eight RBIs and 11 walks—made just one error in 68 chances, recording 27 puts and 40 assists.
One of just three players to start all 39 games this season, Seegers finished the year with a .296 batting average (42-for-142), with seven doubles, 13 RBIs, 18 walks, and 11 stolen bases. In the field, Seegers had 160 chances at short, posting 63 put-outs and 91 assists with just seven errors for a .957 fielding percentage.
Saint John's freshman Wyatt Ulrich was named the Max Molock Player of the Year—as well as the league's Rookie of the Year—while Henry DeCaster of St. Thomas was selected as the MIAC's Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year, and Macalester's Matt Parrington was voted the Jim Dimick Coach of the Year.
As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the 10th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for baseball, which included Saint Mary's
Connor Christenson (Lakeville, Minn.)
