ST. PAUL, Minn. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Becca Dup entered the opening day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the conference's indoor long jump champion.
And the Cardinal sophomore completed the long jump conference sweep Friday, narrowly missing breaking her own school record when she uncorked a winning leap of 5.48 meters, well in front of runner-up Callie Jones of Augsburg, who finished a distance second in 5.28 meters.
Dup, who will take part in the triple jump on Saturday, also qualified for Saturday's final in the 100, clocking a seventh-place time of 12.60.
Jovan Newsum, competing in his final collegiate conference championships, recorded a fifth-place time of 33:07.98 in the 10,000, while
Kyle Lichttenegger also locked up a fifth-place performance in the long jump with a mark of 6.83 meters.
Lichttenegger had a busy Friday for the Cardinal men's team, also qualifying for Saturday's finals in the 100 and 200. The freshman recorded the third-fastest time of the afternoon in the 100, shattering the school record when he stopped the clock in 10.82, while adding the fifth-fastest time in the 200 (22.07).
Rebekah Ramos finished eighth in the pole vault (2.97m), while
Brandon Krogman locked up a spot in Saturday's finals of the 800 with an eighth-place time of 1:53.96.
