ST. PAUL, Minn. — It's been a crazy four-day stretch for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams.
The Cardinals kicked off the craziness at the St. Thomas Tommie Twilight on Wednesday, where David Kemper and Becca Dup led the way—with Kemper setting a new school record in the pole vault (4.87m) and Dup cruising to wins in both the long jump (5.35m) and triple jump (11.35m).
Over the next two days, Bailey Joens placed ninth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Multi Events. Joens finished fourth in the shot put (9.87m), sixth in both the high jump (4.10m) and 200 (27.36), and seventh in the 100 (16.70) on Thursday, before adding 10
th-place showings in the 800 (2:46.24), long jump (4.65m) and javelin (24.76m) en route to a 3,780-point total in the seven-event competition.
While Joens was completing Day 2 of the Multi Events in Northfield, Minn., on Friday, many of the Cardinals took part in the opening day of Hamline's two-day Meet of the UnSaintly, while several of the Cardinal women's team took part in Winona State's Warrior Open.
And on Saturday, the rest of the squads returned to St. Paul, Minn., for another day at the Meet of the UnSaintly.
Becca Dup kicked off her weekend with a second-place leap of 11.42 meters in the triple jump at Winona State's Warrior Open Friday, while adding an eighth in the long jump with a mark of (5.16m). Portia Mensah chipped in a fourth in the 100 (13.44) and 10
th in the 200 (28.04), while Molly Sweet and Molly Abraham recorded eighths in the 800 (2:28.94) and 400 (1:06.28), respectively.
At Hamline's Meet of the UnSaintly, Kemper picked up where he left off in the pole vault, clearing 4.68m in winning the event. Dup chipped in a leap of 11.42 meters to finish second in the long jump, while Kyle Lichttenegger was second in 200 (22.45) and second in long jump (6.67m). Maria Mirrurelli chipped in a fourth in the pole vault (3.28m), while Dean Marlon was eighth in the triple jump (12.02m) and Natalie King chipped in an 11
th in the shot put (39.71m).
