Moore named Cardinals' new head coach

| By:
WINONA, Minn. — For the past eight seasons, Greg Moore has worn the "assistant" title for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team.

That all changed on Monday.

Moore was named the fourth head coach in women's hockey program history Thursday, according to Saint Mary's athletic director Nikki Fennern.

"I am very happy to have Greg as our next head women's hockey coach," Fennern said. "His hockey knowledge and proven recruiting abilities equate to a bright future for Saint Mary's women's hockey. He is committed to the development of our student-athletes—on and off the ice—as well as creating a team environment conducive to competitive success."

"I am very humbled and excited to be named the head coach at Saint Mary's," Moore said. "I have loved being a part of the Saint Mary's community for the past 11 years—both as a player for the men's team and as an assistant for the women's program—and I look forward to the challenges that come with being a head coach."

During his seven years yas an assistant coach for the Cardinals, he helped guide Saint Mary's to back-to-back Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference appearances in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Along with his assistant coaching duties at Saint Mary's, Moore also served as an evaluator and instructor for USA Hockey Central District, where he evaluated players—based on their skills—for participation in the National Team Development Camp.

Moore—a four-year letter-winner as a goaltender for the Cardinal men's hockey team—graduated from Saint Mary's in 2011 with a undergraduate degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He earned his master's in Organizational Leadership from Saint Mary's in 2015.
