GELENA, ILL. – Talk about a case of perfect timing.
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) carded a career-best one-over-par 73 to lead the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team to a tie for sixth-place in the 35-team Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine.
Galewski's one-over-par effort left him tied for fourth overall, trailing Edgewood's Zach Hentrich, Luther's Joe Fewer, and Carthage's Joe Vath, who all shared medalist honors with an even-par 72.
Carthage heads into Saturday's final round with a one-stroke lead over Luther after shooting an opening-round 305. Lake Forest (309), Edgewood (313), and Aurora (314) rounded out the top five, with Saint Mary's tied with Wheaton for sixth.
Along with Galewski's career-best effort, the Cardinals' also got a six-over 78 from
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta), followed by an 81 from
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.), an 83 from
Tyler Dove (Hudson, Wis.), and an 84 from
Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit Mo.).
Final round of the 36-hole tournament will be Saturday at Eagle Ridge North Course.
