ORLANDO, Fla. — It was a new day for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Wednesday's outcome was a mirror image of Tuesday's.
The Cardinals, who dropped a 6-3 decision to Hanover in their first spring trip match Tuesday evening, suffered their second straight 6-3 setback—this time falling to Adrian.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start, posting doubles wins by
Brenden Amiotte (Rapid City, S.D.) and
Bobby Tiedemann (Euclid, Minn.) at No. 1, and
Alex Zuzek (Hastings, Minn.) and
Brett Giesen (Cato, Wis.) at No. 3, to grab a 2-1 lead heading into the six singles matches.
Amiotte, however, was the only Cardinal to come away with a singles wins, posting a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 1. Giesen,
Robbie Sobczak (Cloquet, Minn.), Tiedemann, and Zuzek all fell in straight sets, while
Alex Holm (Red Wing, Minn.) won his opening set at No. 6, but fell in the next two sets 6-2, 10-0.
The Cardinals (3-7 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on March 9, returning to the Winona Tennis Center for a 6 p.m. showdown with St. Thomas.
